This is five small states — New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut — each too small on its own to register as a venture market, though Brown and UConn anchor real research bases within them. Connecticut's Fairfield County ("Gold Coast") corridor and its towns feeding the New York commute get their own dedicated coverage instead, since their economic ties run south rather than through the rest of New England. The region's old textile-mill economy has given way to environmental law, green power, and a scattered venture ecosystem that doesn't concentrate in any single city the way Boston, just south, does.
