Wichita earned the nickname "Air Capital of the World" honestly: Textron Aviation (Cessna and Beechcraft's parent) and Spirit AeroSystems, which builds fuselage sections for Boeing's 737 program, are both headquartered here, anchoring one of the most concentrated general-aviation and aerostructures manufacturing bases in the country. Koch Industries, one of the largest privately held companies in the United States by revenue, is also headquartered in Wichita -- diversified far beyond its refining roots into chemicals, materials, and logistics. Four real companies on file so far, but two of them are why a huge share of the world's small aircraft and commercial jet fuselages get built in this one Kansas city.
